The Development and Piloting of a National Continence Training Package for ATSI Health Workers
The projects developed and piloted a continence training module for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health and community workers. This was distributed to all health worker training institutions, through the community care network and mainstream aged care service providers working with Aboriginal people.
The continence module incorporated local community ownership, accurate information dissemination to consumer and family networks, encouragement for support groups, advocacy, and awareness raising. Together with meeting accreditation standards for both the tertiary and TAFE sectors, the continence training module forges links between ATSI health workers and mainstream Continence Nurse Advisors.
