General Practitioner Continence Education
This project developed an evidence-based educational and awareness program for general practitioners to enable them to manage urinary and faecal incontinence in all age groups.
Train-the-trainer workshops were conducted nationwide with representatives from 48 of the 123 Divisions of General Practice invited to attend. Of those 13 felt they had resources available to devote to the training program and conducted workshops for 229 GPs. Timing and scheduling issues resulted in an inability of a number of interested GP Divisions to participate.
The outcomes of workshop participation included improvement in GP knowledge of incontinence management; and increased GP referrals to nurse continence advisors and physiotherapists.
