NCMS research

The NCMS supported more than 120 projects in its first eight years.  Projects have included:

A grants program was established in 2000 to promote innovation in the care, treatment, prevention and provision of information for adult Australians about incontinence.  Four innovative grant rounds were funded:

  1. Education and information; preventive approaches; testing the cost effectiveness of different treatment options; mechanisms to support people who care for people with incontinence; and programs targeting groups with special needs;
  2. Nocturia; continence health for older men; continence care in the transition from acute to community or residential aged care facilities; and continence management needs of people with a disability;
  3. Assessment, treatment and management of faecal continence; and
  4. Prevention, treatment and/or education relating to continence issues for people who are ageing; men with, or at risk of, incontinence; and people with disabilities.

Additional funding rounds will be undertaken as part of the recent extension of the NCMS to 2010.
