Continence Aids Assistance Scheme (CAAS)
The Continence Aids Assistance Scheme (CAAS) is an Australian Government Program that assists eligible people who have permanent and severe incontinence to meet some of the costs of continence products.
Applicants for the CAAS are required to obtain an assessment from an appropriate health professional to support their application. The outcome of this assessment should be recorded on the CAAS Health Report which is at Section 2 of the CAAS Application Form.
Changes to the Continence Aids Assistance Scheme
From 1 July 2010, the Continence Aids Assistance Scheme will be replaced with a new streamlined payment system that will be paid directly into a client's nominated bank account by Medicare Australia.
The new Continence Aids Payment Scheme (CAPS) will be a simplified system that will allow clients to shop around to get the best value for money and to purchase the most appropriate products for their individual needs.
The payment will be in line with the current value available under the CAAS (up to $479.40 in 2008-09). It will continue to be indexed annually.
The CAAS will continue to be administered in the same way for a further 12 months (1 July 2009 - 30 June 2010). During this time current clients will continue to access their subsidy for continence products ordered through the current supplier, Intouch.
For more information about the Continence Aids Payment Scheme (CAPS) read the CAPS Fact Sheet.
Who is eligible?
The following lists state many of the eligible conditions for the purpose of the CAAS. For conditions not listed, specialist medical advice will be sought on receipt of an Application Form.
